Applications in drones and UAVs

TE Connectivity offers sensor solutions for drones and unmanned aerial vehicles. TE Connectivity's fast to install, industry proven and innovative product solutions enable you to develop state-of-the-art drone technologies.

For example, the MS5607/MS5611 Air Pressure Sensor measures air pressure and converts it into altitude. The sensor detects an air pressure of 0.012 mbar (1.2 pa - equivalent to a height of about 10 cm) at a low altitude near sea level. UAVs use air pressure sensors to stabilize the flight altitude, enabling maneuverability for video and photo shooting. The combination of accelerometer, gyroscope and air pressure sensors ensures that drones can fly precisely.

The HTU21D(F) humidity sensor with temperature output from TE Connectivity precisely measures temperature and humidity (measuring range: 0~100 %RH with 2%~3 % accuracy). The temperature measuring range is -40~120 °C, the accuracy is +/-0.3 °C between 0~60 °C. The HTU21D(F) sets new standards in size and intelligence and is embedded in a DFN (Dual Flat No Leads) package suitable for reflow soldering with a tiny size of 3 x 3 x 0.9 mm. This sensor provides calibrated, linearized signals in digital I²C format.

Atmospheric data is critical to maintaining the consistent speed required by most drone users. Airspeed is an important factor in this respect. When the airspeed of the drone changes, the buoyancy force and air resistance also change. A drone can be controlled by changing the airspeed. Most aircraft use differential pressure airspeed sensors, which consist of an air velocity tube and a pressure sensor. By measuring the dynamic and static pressure of the drone, users can make the necessary adjustments to ensure stable and consistent speeds. The MEAS MS4515DO is a digital differential pressure sensor. It is a compact, ceramic-based pressure transmitter for PCB mounting. This cost-effective and powerful transmitter with digital output for pressure (14 bit) and temperature (11 bit) has the latest CMOS sensor conditioning switching technology to meet the most stringent requirements.
